Day 6

NW wind and projected convergence had the organizers take us to a smallish west facing launch. Crossed at first but it straightened out and with the help of a small army of fluffers the 120 pilots got off safely and at breakneck pace through the narrow cut in the trees. Conditions good with climbs to above cloudbase. The day winner got a long way over cloudbase and took one glide for most of the course. The USA is in third, pretty darn good, thanks to the efforts of Len and Scotty, both finishing strongly. Ryan put in a heroic effort to scrap his way to goal. My decision to leave the clam-shell back brace at home turns out to be a bad one. But the rest of the gang have been picking up the slack and then some! Chief Negotiator/Cultural Liason/Wind Technician Jimbo the wind-technician has been flying well in the nice conditions, and most people are keeping well clear of the trees. Great trip so far, howling OTB today but hopes for another few tasks before we are done. Going to see Temples at Niko today. Photos to follow.
